This painting seems to arouse more curiosity than any painting I've ever done! I've painted a few of similar "genre" that aren't on the web site, but the common theme in these enigmatic paintings is their expression of our questions about why we're here, who we are in relation to nature, and our possile destiny. I began this painting as a sketch, showing my life in three stages, as a youth, mother-middle ager, and as the elder I am hoping to be. I assembled all my favorite animals and expressed our relationship to the medicine wheel of life. Color and shape and flow and friends became the expression.
This painting dramatizes my view of a woman's life in the grand scheme of energy flowing dynamically from germination in the center of the medicine wheel, ascending to wisdom, and eventually returning to the egg. It's the juxtaposition of these beings and their contribution to eachother that has inspired me as I question my way through. Hopefully the questions it arises for you will help your journey.
